"If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world." - J.R.R. Tolkien
Instead of posting questions this week I'm going to make the executive decision that you attempt the corn challenge for at least one meal before class and then blog about it. The frustration is clear that you are all feeling! However, I think that this challenge gets easier with practice and a little guidance. I've only eaten in the GDR once this year, but I've noticed a lot of improvements even since I've been there!
A rice cooker is stocked with rice for lunch and dinner (from what I can infer from the sign advertising it). There are usually beans (or some form of legume) in the salad bar, along with a plethora of vegetables...pretty sure you can make a baked potato as well. As far as dressings go...look for the vinegars (rice wine, red wine, balsamic). If you've never tried these, experiment a little. There are also sunflower seeds from what I remember so those could act as a nice replacement for croutons. Fruit is always a safe bet as is oatmeal or cream of wheat for breakfast. Tea and water are good alternatives to pop and juice. As far as bread and dessert go, grab an orange or apple on your way out just for this one meal maybe ;).
If any of you really can't find something to eat (and have extra meals) let me know and I'll show you how to do it!
See you Thursday!
Today I ate lunch according to the corn challenge rules. I succesfully ate breakfast and lunch without corn products for the last challenge so this time I found it easier. My plate consisted of steamed rice, corn and mixed greens with sunflower seeds and balsamic vinegrette dressing. I have to say I thoguht it was delicious and filling.
ReplyDeleteI did the corn challenge today. I was going to try to go the whole day, but that was too hard for me becaus I just love to eat! I did do one meal though, breakfast. I had some fat-free vanilla yogurt for breakfast. It was very delicious!
ReplyDeleteIt would be really hard to do the corn challenge every day just because it limits what you can eat dramatically. It's amazing how many foods include corn or corn products.
I tried so hard to make it all day...but dinner beat me! :( However, I did make it through the rest of the day (breakfast...lunch...snacks)!! I primarily had fruits and veggies. It really wasn't too bad, but I can't say I would CHOOSE to stick with it.
ReplyDeleteIt is true....so much stuff (not only food products) has corn or corn products in it! As it turned out....I thought I could chew a piece of gum to quench some hunger, but the 4th item listed on the ingredients was HFCS. Oh well.
I was doing such a great job at this Corn Challenge today! I only had fruits and veggies and I only drank water! I thought I was hungry for most of the day but I was getting enough food to survive. I probably would have done the whole day too...until the tennis team had a team dinner and B-Dubs. Fail.
ReplyDeleteI was checking my email and saw this article about food... I immediately of class. It even has a section about high fructose corn syrup! It's quite interesting.

I just heard a commercial stating that, the body can't tell the difference between corn sugar(the high fructose corn syrup) and cane sugar. They were actually saying that high fructose corn syrup isn't bad for a person. Any form of sugar in large quantities is bad for a person. They will literally do whatever they can to sell more corn based products. I guess I just don't get why they are doing this.

Today I actually made it through having three full meals without corn! I grabbed an apple for breakfast before I went to my biology lab. I ate a salad for lunch and it was actually a lot more pleasing than I thought it would be. I put tomatoes broccoli and a vinagrette dressing on it. Then for dinner I had rice and a small salad. I actually feel really good and had an easier time doing it this time than I did the first time. I'm glad that I finally succeeded at this. However, I think that doing this every day would become very challenging.
ReplyDeleteI did the challenge a few days ago, for lunch, and I managed to do it just fine. I ate in my room from stuff I had. I ate two bananas, an apple, an orange, a diet sobe, animal crackers, that had just sugar, with peanut butter, Natural Jif creamy, and for a snack, I had popcorn. I managed to pull it off just fine, but I managed to get hungry quickly.
